David Fitzroy – First Life Member

At UGFM’s August 2014 Annual General Meeting, David Fitzroy became UGFM Radio Murrindindi’s first Life Member. David has been involved with UGFM as a broadcaster in presenting the program ‘Sounds of the Upper Goulburn’ for over 13 years every Saturday afternoon from 12 noon until 3pm. David included Poets Corner where local poets submitted or recited their poems on air, local news, interviews, commentary and information along with music from the 50’s through until the 90’s. For many years Laurie Hood also cohosted the program with David until he retired around 5 years ago.

David is a Justice of the Peace and in his role as then Alexandra SES Controller along with SES members assisted UGFM with construction of the Mt Eildon transmission site that included establishing a new transmitter hut and tower in late 1996. This was part of a combined SES and UGFM project to improve UGFM’s coverage and provide a new location for the SES UHF radio network, Wireless Institute Civil Emergency Network (WICEN) and UHF CB repeater systems.

This facility has been instrumental providing local communications for emergency services through various emergencies including UGFM’s emergency broadcasts, and has established the hub for distribution of UGFM’s programs across the Murrindindi Shire.

Well done Fitzy!
