Jim Eagles Retiring after 21 Years with UGFM

President Peter Weeks with Big Jim Eagles receiving his certificate for 21 years of broadcasting with UGFM

Jim Eagles started with UGFM in 1996 back when we were broadcasting from the Alexandra Secondary College 3 days a week. In 1997 we gained a Temporary Community Broadcast Licence and began broadcasting 7 days a week. This was a big leap going from 3 to 7 days as we had to find additional presenters to cover the additional shifts. Many presenters took on the challenge and with many still on air today including Jim or Big Jim as he is known to his listeners.

Each year the total hours presenters spend broadcasting is acknowledged at the Annual General Meeting and Jim has consistently been one with the highest hours spent on air. For many years on a Wednesday night at 7pm Jim has assisted with bringing ‘The Message’ to listeners a christian religious program with Pastors representing various religions locally.

Many listeners have enjoyed his Rockshop program on Tuesdays and Friday mornings every week so we have big shoes to fill as Friday 15th September was retirement for Jim Eagles with his last Rockshop. Jim is moving to Philip Island to work as a cook in a new food business at Cowes called La Porchetta, so if you down that way drop in an say hello!

Thanks for all your work over the years Jim, we hope to hear you on radio again soon!
