At the 2016 Annual General Meeting, three long standing members were made Life Members of UGFM – Radio Murrindindi in recognition of their involvement with the station.
Peter Rice AFSM, Julee Hosking and Bryan Slader were all inducted as Life Members of the Upper Goulburn Community Radio Inc.
Peter Rice has been involved with the station since inception and has been a broadcaster since first going to air in November 1994, with his regular Saturday afternoon program ‘Country Collection’ that began in early 1995. Ian Hewitt joined as co-host a few years later. When UGFM began broadcasting 7 days a week Peter commenced the Tuesday Breakfast program, regularly speaking with councilors from local government and covering state politics with local members of state parliament. Peter has been involved with the committee of management as Secretary, Treasurer and Vice President for most of the stations existence, with expertise in assisting to gaining grants for projects. Peter has also been heavily involved with the emergency broadcasting aspects of the station and is a regular relief broadcaster.
Bryan Slader began broadcasting in early 1995 on weekends and has been a regular broadcaster with the station ever since. Bryan moved to his Tuesday night time slot ‘After Work with Bryan’ from 8 – 10 pm when UGFM began broadcasting 7 days a week in 1997 and tradition continues today 21 years on. Bryan has been very much involved behind the scenes, a diesel mechanic by trade, he has voluntarily assisted in installation, service and maintenance of all our generators and always makes himself available to assist during working bees an in any way he can. In October 1997 UGFM changed frequency from FM 98.9 to 106.9, Bryan assisted with overnight works at the transmission site in the frequency change including helping to change antennas on the tower.
Julee Hosking began broadcasting in late 1996 when she dropped into the original studios next to the Alexandra Secondary College to make a cup of coffee for her longtime friend Rosemary Parker (Mintern) who was broadcasting at the time and she has never left! Julee has been involved with the committee of management as a committee member but primarily as the Secretary for many of her 20 years with the station. UGFM has received many awards through Julee’s nominations in various categories over the years. She was very much involved with the relocation of the studios to Perkins Street Alexandra in 2004 and has been a broadcaster for all of these years with various programs and co-hosts including her Thursday morning program ‘Men and Paws’ that includes a segment for our visually impaired listeners with Radio for the Print Handicapped. Julee has been sponsorship coordinator for over 12 years.
Well done to Peter, Julee and Bryan a great achievement in 60 years of collective voluntary community support to the station. They join David Fitzroy as being Life Members of Upper Goulburn Community Radio Inc.
