UGFM Celebrates 21 Years of Broadcasting

Celebrating 21 years of broadcasting is a major milestone for UGFM that was kicked off by many volunteers, businesses, services clubs and public support helping the station establish itself following a public meeting in 1993.

UGFM gained its temporary licence on the 4th October 1994 from the then Australian Broadcasting Authority and began broadcasting early in November 1994 after establishing studios and building a transmitter located at the old Headmasters house located at the Alexandra High School now Secondary College. Broadcasting on a frequency of FM 98.9MHz three days a week Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Later a high powered transmitter was established at Mt Eildon servicing the Alexandra & Lake Eildon district and eventually a 7 day a week licence was gained and the frequency changed to FM 106.9 MHz.

Since then transmitters have been established for the Marysville, Yea and Flowerdale districts and now Kinglake Ranges.

This also includes studios at Alexandra, Marysville, Kinglake and soon Yea.

Planning for the celebrations are well under way and include a get together for all past and present presenters now called broadcasters on the Friday 2nd of October, and two days of special broadcasts involving past and present broadcasters over the weekend of the 3rd  and 4th of October 2015.

A special Pin (badge) is being designed to commemorate the occasion, along with a complete history of the station, with biographies of past and present broadcasters, along with outside broadcasts from various towns during the month of October and more.

The 21st Celebration Committee are looking to make contact with as many past broadcasters and members of the community that have had an involvement with the station including correspondents that have had regular input to programs such as Good Morning Murrindindi, Breakfast Programs and the Sport Show.

To get in touch or pass on to anyone you may know that has been involved with UGFM over the past 21 years that would like to be a part of our celebrations contact us by email or phone 03 5772 2722, the phone will divert to a mobile should it not be answered in the studio.

We look forward to having a really good walk down memory lane!
